DESIGN: Budgets UX
Dear BudgetBakers,
Thank you for creating such a wonderful app that makes expense tracking so easy despite the complexity of the information that we want to keep track. I’ve only started using Wallet few days ago, and is on the premium individual trial. It’s so addictive that I’m looking forward to spend my money so that I can key in something! Weird. Haha.
I love the app, and would like to give just one small feedback on the Budget’s interface. I rely on budgeting a lot to make sure that I don’t overspent, so when I look at the Budget page, the first thing I want to look for is the amount that I’ve remained. But the amount that always pop out first is the original budget amount.
Do you think it would be more comfortable for users to have the remaining amount at the top right corner (to get the first attention), original amount on the bottom left, and expenses amount on the bottom right?
I suggested the original amount on the left and expenses on the right, because of how information are usually positioned in tables (for e.g. in excel sheets). Information that are fixed are usually on the left, while the information that are consistently changing is on the right. Like the table below, the descriptions are fixed, while the amounts are the ones changing.
Hence, in the case of Wallet’s budget page, the original amount is a fixed factor, and the expenses amount is the one that will be changing from time to time, and the remaining amount should attract the most attention (top right, big font is just right for it) to help users be aware of how much is left. And awareness is powerful!
So it’s just switching of position of information. Maybe I sound silly to emphasize so much, I just hope I can contribute my thoughts in some way, and make the experience of using Wallet even better. I know nothing about building app, so I must acknowledge your expertise in this area and not discounting all the efforts the team has put in to birth your ideas to something amazing. So hope those words above help. :)
Best regards!
Isabelle Tan :)
