Data LOST (horror story)
Hello,
this is a frustrating story (at least for me), but I hope it will be helpful to someone.
I've been a WalletApp user since 2014. I add my records manually, every day, since then.
I paid for a lifetime license in March this year.
I use the app only on my smartphone and, sometimes, I visit the web interface.
Last September I noticed that ALL the records older than the 14th of July 2020 have lost the category, simply set to “Other”. I’m talking about more than 7000 records!
I’ve submitted the problem to Wallet support. To keep the story short:
1 - they don’t have a clue about what happened
2 - they don’t have a backup in their cloud sync service (you CAN have an encrypted backup without breaking privacy laws)
3 - they proposed to refund the cost of lifetime license (a few Euro…)
I didn’t accept (3) because it would refund NOTHING of the data I’ve lost.
I’m a computer scientist and I produce software, so I’m not interested in bashing someone for software bugs.
BUT
Points 1 (such a bug… and no means to understand what happened!) AND point 2 (don’t have a data restore policy), honestly, is something I cannot accept. It’s the first time EVER an online service loses my data. I’m still trying to understand whether a legal action is possible.
It’s 2020, this cannot be accepted: HOLY COW! They work with your financial data, they ask you to link your bank account to them!
I’m still using WalletApp, while I look for an alternative: if you have some suggestion, I’m listening.
Thanks for the attention and BEWARE OF THIS APP, if you care about your data.

I also had the same story. It's frustrating and really painful.
How to reproduce the issue.
Use wallet app on a pc for one to two days.
Then use a mobile app and make changes to categories, records etc for months.
Don't use wallet app on PC for the same duration.
When you suddenly open the wallet app on the previous PC browser it syncs data in a random way from the cache of the browser and your customizations to categories are gone.
Possible reason.
They cache the data in browser for visually good experience of users. That is making the issue.
For me the it is 7500 records.
Still I am using this app.
Resolved issue by myself rather than their unresolved tickets.
